As one of the busiest air transport hubs in the world, it is no wonder that the airports in and around London are often from where most people book their flights to USA from London. In this article we will look at which airport is best to use depending on your location within the UK.

London is blessed with a number of major airports, justified by successive governments because of the huge demand for air travel both in the UK itself and from European travellers. Names like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, London City and Luton airports are known throughout the world.

The biggest of these airports is by some measure Heathrow. If you’re looking for cheap flights to USA from London, then this airport supports many airlines that operate discounted flights. This airport has been around for many decades and occupies the top 5 busiest airports in the world on a regular basis. It has been less well-used over 2010 because of the Icelandic ash cloud which caused mayhem across Europe, costing many airlines a great deal in lost revenue.

If you live on the western side of England, you will find that Heathrow is the best located airport. But using this airport depends on where you want to go, as despite its size, it does not operate flights to every destination. You should check with the Heathrow airport website to see which destinations it serves.

If you live to the north of London, or the Midlands, you might find it easier to book a flight that departs from Stansted in Essex. Stansted is called a London airport, but its geographical location is in fact Essex, a green, flat county to the north and east of the capital. It is also very handy for people who live in East Anglia.

Luton is a well located airport if you are arriving towards the capital from the central area of England. It also operates many flights to the USA, with destinations that include New york and Los Angeles.

London City Airport is located in the city centre of London, and operates a number of cheap flights to USA from London. Many business people use this route, since the financial centre of London is located near here – both the city of London and Canary Wharf are located nearby. As the second most visited city in the world, and a global financial hub, London’s airports look set to continue to be very well used.
