Q&A: Car hire from Pisa Airport?

Question by elo: Car hire from Pisa Airport?
My boyfriend and i are flying to Pisa in September and need to get to camping Capanne, in Bibbona. I think hiring a car would work out a similar price to a taxi to and from airport, or are there any buses/coaches?

You may want a car to get around while you’re here anyway.

However, you could take the train from Pisa airport to Cecina which is close to Bibbona for as little as 4.20 euro. It’s an hour or less – including the time to change trains at Pisa Centrale station. A cab from Cecina to the campsite would be much cheaper than from Pisa. You can find specific schedules here: http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=c79686605528a110VgnVCM1000003f16f90aRCRD (use Pisa aero for the airport train station). The next station after Cecina is Bolgheri – it’s only another 6 minutes on the train, but is a little further from the camping site.

I think train is better. Hired cars are expensive, taxis are even more expensive. On the contrary you can easily reach Cecina (the little city next to Bibbona) by regional trains. From Pisa Aeroporto you go in few minutes to Pisa Centrale, than you find the connection to Cecina (direction Orbetello, Grosseto or Rome). Not forget to visit Pisa in the way, another idea might be the medieval village of Volterra (by a little train which starts from Cecina).
