Q&A: How much does a vacation to England (London) cost from San Diego, CA, USA?

Question by Josh: How much does a vacation to England (London) cost from San Diego, CA, USA?
I am interested in taking a trip to England in the future. We live in San Diego, CA so would most likely be traveling out of LAX for big international flights. I figure I would start saving now to hopefully make the trip more enjoyable by having more financial wiggle room when the time comes. However I do not really know how much money I’m shooting for. I’m assuming round-trip airfare for two will be approximately 00, hopefully less. Another thing is where we would stay. While I don’t expect to stay at the Four Seasons, I also do not wish to stay in hostels. An average hotel, in a good neighborhood, with a nice bed will do me just fine. Also I would want to be able to enjoy some of the local restaurants and not worry about eating sandwiches out of vending machines.

So while I’m by no means rich, I want to be able to enjoy my trip since I’m spending so much on airfare to get there. Also how long is appropriate for a trip to London? Say a week? This is something I hope to plan for in the next two years or so, so any information is greatly appreciated. . .

for two I would say expect ,000 + per person for 7-10 days

London is a big city with so much to do- a week is the very least I would suggest

( I have gone 6 times and still haven’t made it to everything I have wanted to see & do)

I usually stay at bed & breakfast places but you can find good hotels but really do your Homework
Trip adviser is a good site to use for reviews/info

go to BookMe. You can compare prices on all the major travel sites from one location. It’s the only way you can guarantee the best deals for the best hotels for your money online.

It used to be cheaper when San Diego had non-stop flights. But you should be able to do $1500 for plane tickets for two. Check connections via Phoenix as well. Sometimes it is less risky to drive to LAX and park in long term parking. I’ve missed connections flying those little Saab turboprops from SAN to LAX.

Typically people who want low cost hotels that are not hostels tend to stay near an underground station far from city center. Victoria Station, Earl’s court, Paddington Station are three of the more common locations. Bloomsbury has inexpensive hotels as well. Personally I find that it sucks up valuable vacation time in London getting on the underground all the time. It also make it very inconvenient late at night when you want to go to dinner or a play and you really would like to be able to walk back to your room. Strand Palace is a very old, large hotel near Covent Garden. You can walk to clubs, restaurants, and wine bars, and walk home. Rooms are small, but complete with basic comforts. There are several restaurants and bars right in the hotel for easy access. Most of the theater is within a few blocks.
